IMarEST’s ACTIVE ROLE IN SINGAPORE’s MARITIME WEEK
The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) is playing an active role in Singapore Maritime Week 2008. The IMarEST is participating in Martech 2008 – the 8th Biennial International Conference & Exhibition ‘Maritime Training, Communication & Technology’ (13-14 October), IMarEST will be exhibiting at the show (stand 20); and also holding a Young Members’ event on 14 October.
The IMarEST is the professional membership body for all science, engineering and technology professionals involved in a marine or offshore environment or maritime business sector. Today the Institute has some 15,000 members in over a hundred countries across the world; as well as over 30 ‘Marine Partners’ – company membership offering a wide range of benefits tailored to each organisation’s needs.
“We are delighted to play such an active role in the third Singapore Maritime Week, the leading annual maritime event in Singapore,” says Professor Yoo Sang Choo, IMarEST’s 106th President, and Founding Director of the Centre for Offshore Research & Engineering (CORE), and Director of the Offshore Engineering Programme in Department of Civil Engineering in National University of Singapore (NUS).
“Driven by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), it is a gathering of the international maritime community in Singapore for a week of international conferences, dialogues, exhibitions and social events in celebration of all things maritime – and therefore of great interest to all our membership; and one at which we are extremely proud to wave the IMarEST ‘flag’ and to promote the benefits of corporate and individual membership to our thriving Institute.”
The Institute offers a wide range of services for marine and offshore professionals including a careers and recruitment service; the International Directory of Marine Consulting; technical awards; international networks – with 50 branches around the world; the Young Members’ Network; a wide range of conferences and lectures and social events; and magazines and other publications aimed at every segment of membership. Martech 2008 provides the ideal opportunity for those engaged in all elements of marine engineering, science and technology to find out about the professional benefits that will accrue to them through membership of IMarEST.
“Our Young Members’ event – “A Maritime Nexus – For Young Maritime Professionals” is being organised by the Joint Branch of the RINA and the IMarEST (Singapore), MaritimeONE and BIMCO 39,” explains Abi Virjee, IMarEST South East Asia Division Executive. “On Tuesday 14 October at 6.15 pm, a networking reception will take place at the Crazy Elephant, Clarke Quay, 3E River Valley Road, Singapore. This will be a great opportunity for you to network with your fellow young marine professionals in a casual and relaxed environment. Sign up for the Maritime Nexus today by sending an e-mail to abi.virjee@imarest.org.”
